Loading into a trailer with a poor approach angle
Section titled “Loading into a trailer with a poor approach angle”If the splitter catches on the way up the ramps, take the clams off and load the car without them. That is the intended answer, not a workaround.
Removing the front clip in particular is what buys you length, and it is often the difference between fitting and not.
How much you gain depends on which splitter is fitted: the competition splitter is roughly 2 to 3 inches longer than the standard one. Reported gains run from about 6 inches upwards.
If you are choosing a trailer, plan on the low end. Sizing against the best case is how you end up unable to load. If you already have the car, measure it both ways and use your own number.
See Removing Bodywork for how to get the clips off single-handed, and put them on stands rather than flat on the trailer floor.
